FEDERAL’S NEW 7MM BACKCOUNTRY
7-min read
Federal Ammunition’s 7mm Backcountry cartridge isn’t just “new.” It actually offers several benefits over traditional magnum rounds.
The new round delivers magnum hunting power in a more compact rifle platform and does so with less recoil than many other magnums. Its ballistics suggest a longer-range hunting round with considerably less drop at distances than most of the old guard magnums, with more power delivered at the target.
Plus—and this is big—unlike a lot of new rounds that come out with little support, there should be at least two dozen rifles available in this cartridge before the end of 2025.
CHRISTENSEN MPR .22
7-min read
The feature-rich Christensen Arms MPR Rimfire was introduced in 2024 at SHOT Show in Las Vegas and began shipping to dealers in April of that year. It is built around a lightweight, billet aluminum chassis, with the barrel shrouded by an M-LOK compatible carbon fiber handguard.
Available in .17 HMR, .22 LR, and .22 WMR chamberings, with barrel lengths running for 16- to 20-inches, our test MPR Rimfire was chambered in .22 LR and sported an 18-inch carbon-tensioned barrel. Read on for the full review.
SPRINGFIELD’s MODEL 2020 BOUNDARY
9-min read
In early August, Springfield Armory launched its latest version of the Model 2020, the Boundary. Designed as a dedicated hunter, the Boundary’s long action easily handles longer magnum cartridges in a lightweight package.
The heart of the Boundary is the Model 2020 action, which features dual locking lugs on a fluted bolt that runs down EDM raceways for smooth cycling. In addition, an optimized extraction cam provides robust, reliable operation in any condition. Read on for more.
RUGER LC10 PISTOL CALIBER CARBINE
5-min read
The new Ruger LC (Light Compact) Carbine is here, and after our review, all we have to say is step aside, 9mm PCC! The LC10 10mm pistol-caliber carbine (PCC) is the new-age version of the classic lever action chambered in the same round as your pistol.
The Ruger LC10 operates using a straight blowback action. Cartridge pressure is tamed by the bolt’s mass—a sizable chunk of metal. The bolt is pushed to the rear upon firing and the action recoil spring returns it to battery, stripping a fresh round from the mag.
Thankfully, Ruger uses a two-piece telescopic bolt design for its blowback operation. This contributes to a balanced compact feel of the LC10. The simplicity of the LC10 operation is key to its reliability in digesting mag after mag during evaluation. Said mag is a Glock-pattern 30-rounder.
